Our second installment in this IDX series covers the creation of a custom search page.

This is a unique feature that we don’t see in many IDX services. Luckily, IDX Broker Platinum added the ability in a recent update.

Through creating a custom search home, we will be able to tailor the search fields specifically to our needs. This includes:

  • Hiding irrelevant search fields
  • Setting default values for fields
  • Setting default values and then hiding those fields so they can;t be changed

In our video tutorial, we look at using this feature to create a condo search form for our sample community page. We set the area and property type fields and then hide them. We then hide fields like acreage that doesn’t apply to a condo search. Default prices are also set to make the search form feel more customized to the area.

Finally, we used the button shortcodes in our WordPress child themes to place a call-to-action button on our community page to that search form.
